When my dad’s health declined after hospitalization, my role shifted overnight. I wasn’t prepared—but like so many caregivers, I showed up. An old spiral notebook borrowed from my dad’s desktop became my lifeline—first to track medications and appointments, then to make sense of the emotional terrain of caregiving.
After his death—and in the stillness of early pandemic days—I returned to its pages. Grief, exhaustion, love, and sorrow spilled out. Writing became catharsis, then clarity.
What began as a private journaling practice slowly became something more. I hadn’t set out to create a finished product—but as the pages accumulated, I began to sense they might serve others beyond myself. Then I came to understand the scope of the caregiving crisis.
More than 53 million caregivers in the U.S. support loved ones—or someone in their care—through illness, disability, dementia, and aging, often without preparation, pay, or relief.
The toll is real: exhaustion, isolation, financial strain, and unspoken grief.
My call to respond eventually took shape as this journal. While it’s not a memoir in the traditional, linear sense, it is a hybrid: part guided journal, part personal narrative—an intentional blend of memoir and support tool.
When I realized traditional publishing might take years,
I chose to self-publish and make it readily accessible: a heartfelt offering for those who need it most.
May this journal—and the companion webspace that surrounds it—offer practical tools, soulful prompts, and space to gently reconnect, wherever you are in your caregiving journey.
Each of the journal’s twelve reflections is drawn from real caregiving moments—gentle stories that open the heart and ground the experience. The Morning Routine, inspired by a quiet ritual with my father, revealed meaning I didn’t recognize until much later.
Each reflection gives rise to a thoughtful theme—paired with gentle prompts and curated quotes that guide and ground.
Spacious, unstructured pages offer room for your thoughts and feelings—welcoming whatever wants to be written, without pressure or expectation.
This journal was created for anyone supporting another—through love, circumstance, or quiet commitment. It’s for:
Beth’s caregiving journey began in the everyday moments of supporting her father. What unfolded was a profound transformation—revealing the healing power of reflection—and a deeper calling to support others on their own journeys of care.
A companion to caregivers in both spirit and practice, Beth brings empathy, presence, and soulful encouragement to everything she creates. Through the pages of My Caregiving Companion, the resources offered here, or her one-on-one coaching, she gently invites caregivers to honor their own hearts as fiercely as they care for others.
Beth holds a master’s in Spiritual Psychology and a background in Therapeutic Recreation and Corporate Wellness. She is a Coach for Caregivers, Conscious Dying Coach, End-of-Life Doula, Companion Animal Doula, and Estate Dissolution Specialist—supporting individuals and families through life’s transitions with clarity, compassion, and grace.
While I didn’t know it at the time, this journal was already taking shape in my heart during the everyday moments I spent caring for my dad. We didn’t need many words—his presence was steady, grounding, and in many ways, sacred.
Early on in this journey, I began writing in one of his old spiral notebooks, trying to make sense of what I was feeling. Those musings became something more. Over time, they slowly evolved into this journal.
His love and wisdom still guide me, and it’s because of our journey together that this offering exists—for you, and for all the caregivers who give so much of themselves.
Thank you, Dad. 💗
While this journal began with one story,
it grows through the many hearts that find their way here.
Whether you’re caregiving, reflecting on a prompt, or simply moved
to reach out, your thoughts are always welcome.
I’d be honored to hear what feels true to share.
I also offer one-on-one coaching—for caregivers, those navigating end-of-life,
and anyone feeling called to explore conscious dying.
If that support resonates with you, I warmly invite you to reach out.
Thoughtful care, quiet inspiration, and simple tools—delivered gently to your inbox.
